Essilor International S.A. is a French-based international ophthalmic optics company that designs, manufactures and markets lenses to correct or protect eyesight. Its headquarters is in Charenton-le-Pont (near Paris), France.
A former employee said this in a review: "Essilor is highly political and only a short term career stop for most. They have horrible management that blames people for their process and leadership problems so as a result they have massive layoffs to change people every few years."

No one at the top is held accountable, so there is the never-ending annual cycle of freezes, cuts, layoffs and low morale."

Current Employee - Laboratory Technician says"Overtime is required. Usually the Saturday you have plans. The manager gives you lots of responsibility because he leaves work everyday to play golf. You are given unreachable goals to obtain with no help from the management team. Your schedule changes every time you work. There's no end time on your day. They want you to clock in, work until you get the orders complete but they don't stop coming in. It's a "sweat shop" to push out frames with little to no concern over the quality. Jobs continue to come back to be redone because people aren't doing the final inspection. They just check them off. For years I've watched one bad leader leave and another take over. I thought this one would be different but, he made it clear he's only there to drive us to hit "quotas" and go golf, fish or whatever (He seriously said it during a morning meeting). He takes all the credit for our long days and he shoves off each day. To be frank, we get more done when he's not there to send his minions out to give us direction he doesn't have the ability to assign. Each day he sends one to my station to tell me to stay another hour... Another hour. If I refuse, I pay for it by showing me attitude, arrogance and shunning me for days or weeks. The sad part is, I've liked working there for so long, this new manager makes me want to look somewhere else but I don't want to give up what I've earned. I put up with so much to get to this point."
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says"There is limited focus on long term initiatives. Management focuses on reaction rather than proactive planning for the future. Biggest cons: 1. Management is made up of yes-men. i.e. Decisions are made at the top and managers are told what to execute. 2. There is no prioritization of work. Everything must be done even during layoffs, which happen every few months. 3. If Essilor is a form of meritocracy, then the measure of merit is how much you suck up to management."
Former Employee - Manager says"Poor insurance benefits: a company the size of Essilor should be able to offer affordable benefits. However, many employees have to purchase benefits through affordable care act because they cannot afford the monthly cost of the offered benefits. Lack of concern or care for employees: HR is so far removed that they only speak to the people causing the problems, namely, untrained managers who bully and verbally and sexually harrassed employees and peers. When the matter is brought to light then the target becomes the whistleblower. Nepotism and lack of real opportunity: employees have to either be one of the many bad actors or a relative of one in order to get promoted."

Essilor is being subsumed by Luxottica. Some departments won't survive the merger. Employees who survived this month's layoff are starting to look for new jobs."

Packing Associate (Former Employee) says"I worked at Essilor of American through a temp agency. This place was not forthcoming about the numbers I was supposed to reach. They NEVER told me what my quota was and I didn't even last a month when they decided to fire me for not reaching the quota. I packed contacts into boxes and never once did they tell me how much I was supposed to pack or put away. This place is a joke. Cons: Rude employees, no clear indication on the quota"

No understanding of its own platform and way too much time spent unecessarily on out of in and out of state training versus the time spent performing the actual job. Even after hours you are to take exams throughout entire duration on the job. Management has poor, terrible qualities with a huge lack ofunderstanding, compassuon and short patiented attitude."

Do only care about their profits and not about workers, there is a great need for leadership skills . too many brothers ,sisters. wives, husbands , sons and daughters work here.and unless you are one of these you will be forced into a dead end job with no chance to advance, with no pay raises and pressured to stress yourself out in order to perform more tasks than you can. This place is the worst . Cons: almost everything"

Laboratory technician (Former Employee) says"I met some very hard working people and everyone receives very poor pay with little to no benefits. Forget about moving up within the company and getting a raise!! Cons: Everything you can imagine"
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) says"Lenexa,ks location. changed supervisors soo much it was ridiculous. bombarded with switching new management and the company didn’t seem to care how the employees felt about it. I’ve seen sooo many csrs come and go, it’s sad. I’ve seen people get fired because they were simply not liked. If only the CEO could see how duffens in lenexa is being ran! Being a csr and dealing with supervisors and non-responsive management that are not in the building with you was a joke. There’s absolutely No room for advancement what so ever. Emails between other csrs and supervisors are not clear. Half the time they don’t even know what there talking about. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone."
Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) says"Employer doesn't care about you. They make it out like safety is everything but theirs constant collisions between carts. Their isn't enough trainers so they might walk you through a few things in your first week but after that you're basically on your own. I had new people asking me how to do certain things on my 2nd week of working there. Along with hearing people bad mouth the work place so I learned pretty quickly that the morale of Essilor was low. Cons: Bad life/work balance"

Warehouse Associate (Former Employee) says"You top out at 15$ an hour and will get fired over the most petty thing. I've seen people get fired for one curse word. HR runs the management and they're not for the workers at all. You basically push 40lb carts around in circles all day. The quota is almost unreachable."
Ex Supervisor/Manager (Former Employee) says"Upper management is too concerned with promoting family members To jobs they are not qualified to do. When issues arise within these family run departments, there is no person to discuss things with without fear of retaliation. Lab is poorly run and corporate seems to sit by and allow things to deteriorate. Advancement for the most part, is achievable for those that are either related or friends of general manager. If none of those options are available, they rather hire out people with no optical experience then to promote from within. A lot of people are kept in positions they are not successful at because of who they know. The over all atmosphere of the general work floor is low morale and trust. Corporate needs get involved and overhaul this place and deal with the nepotism. There are good employees there that are ready to jump ship. Cons: Nepotism, unqualified managers, poor advancement opportunities, no family values unless it is their own"

Non English clear speaking management. Very poor work environment. Absolutely no job security or exceptions for life changing events or acts of God. Lots of drama lots of high school actions and BULLYS. Management doesn’t take complaints seriously. Out of my 30 years working experience this is by far my worst experience. I would never go back to this company even if they offered me double pay trust me when I tell you it is horrible!!!!"

The good pay is not worth the complete lack of management, lack of ethics, everyone out for themselves mentality, infighting between the US, France, and Italy, etc. Cut throat and stressful everyday you show up there. There are so many better jobs out there and guaranteed you will find a better culture."
